Fort Wayne, Ind.—Jose Torres, Mat Nelson, and Austin Hendrick all hit home runs as the Dayton Dragons defeated the Fort Wayne TinCaps 10-2 on Wednesday night. The Dayton win snapped their six-game losing streak and evened the series at one win apiece.

The Dragons collected 13 hits in the game, including three each for Torres and Nelson. Their 10 runs matched their total for the previous four games combined.

Game Recap: The Dragons scored runs in each of the first five innings, building a 9-0 lead. The enjoyed big innings in the second and third, plating three runs in each inning. Jose Torres blasted his 12th homer of the year to lead off the second, and Justice Thompson added an RBI double later in that inning. Austin Hendrick belted a two-run home run in the third, his 18th in the Reds organization this season and his 11th with the Dragons. Mat Nelson had a solo homer in the fifth, his eighth home run of the season.

Meanwhile, Dragons starting pitcher Chase Petty was outstanding for the second straight start. After throwing four no-hit innings last Thursday against Lansing, Petty left the ballgame with two outs in the fifth holding a 9-0 lead. He departed with the bases loaded, and one of his runners eventually came in to score, giving Petty a final line of four and two-thirds innings, five hits and one run, with one walk and seven strikeouts. He threw 74 pitches.

Reliever Jayvien Sandridge (1-0), who replaced Petty in the fifth, remained in the game through the end of the sixth and was credited with the victory. He walked one but did not allow a hit and struck out two.

Fort Wayne scored one run in the eighth before the Dragons closed out the scoring with a run in the top of the ninth on an RBI single by Thompson.

Steven Leyton had a hit and a sacrifice fly for the Dragons. He is 7 for 17 (.412) over his last five games with two home runs and three doubles.

The three home runs in the game gave the Dragons 130 for the year. The club record is 144, set in 2001. There are 22 games to play.

Notes: During the 2022 season, 60 players have now appeared in at least one game for the Dragons, a new club record. The previous high was 59 in 2021.

The Dayton win improved their second half record to 13-29. They are 52-56 overall. Fort Wayne dropped to 18-26 in the second half and 45-65 overall.
