To start the season, Kyle Palmieri skated on the first line for the New York Islanders. He would fill the right-wing spot, with Mat Barzal at the center and Anders Lee at the left-wing. His position on the Islanders never really dropped over the season, regardless of his play. He finished the season on the second line with Barzal at the center, and Zach Parise at the left-wing.

On the year, Palmieri picked up 33 total points off of 15 goals and 18 assists. These are respectable numbers, but on the team, Palmieri finished ninth on the team in points and was tied with Barzal and Parise for fourth on the team in goals scored. He wasn't much better with the assist stat line as he was tied for 10th with the captain, Anders Lee.

All of this calls into question, should Palmieri move up or down the roster ahead of next season. The answer is pretty simple, down. If he is still on the team come the opening day for the Islanders, Palmieri shouldn't see the first or second line.

Palmieri did well for the Islanders in the playoffs last year. Palmieri and Nelson tied for first with seven total goals for the 2020-2021 playoffs. However, that was last year. This year was much different. The best thing to do for the Islanders is to switch Palmieri and Oliver Wahlstrom on the lines.

To start the season, Oliver Wahlstrom played on the third line. He had a respectable year as well, picking up 24 points off of 13 goals and 11 assists. Wahlstrom should be given a bigger role next season to give him a better chance to succeed on the Islanders.

This year was a rough year all around. A big reason why that was, was because it's time to let the kids play. Unfortunately, the former coach Barry Trotz didn't see it that way. Hopefully, in the upcoming season, we see that idea implemented more, and actually give the kids more of a chance to play.
