Elden Ring ranks in the top ten for dollar sales in the US after less than five months.

When it launched in February, it almost felt like everyone was playing Elden Ring and well, not much has changed. Turns out it didn't just feel that way. A lot of people really were and have continued to play Elden Ring as the Souls game has already managed to break into the US's top ten best-selling games of all time.

That's according to NPD's Mat Piscatella (via GamesRadar). “Elden Ring ranks among the top 10 best-selling premium games in the U.S. market all-time,” Piscatella tweeted while breaking down some of NPD's key numbers for June. That's right, Elden Ring broke into the top ten in June, so may be even higher up the rankings by this point.

Piscatella doesn't indicate where exactly Elden Ring ranks in the top ten. Most likely tenth for the time being which is still incredibly impressive. There are a few caveats though, and not just the fact that only US sales are included in these numbers. These particular rankings are done by dollar sales, so the revenue made rather than units shipped. That gives newer titles like Elden Ring an advantage over older games that retailed for less at launch.

It's also worth noting what Piscatella means when he refers to Elden Ring as a premium game. “This just means games with an upfront purchase price and excludes downloadable content/MTX/recurrent post-launch spending,” Piscatella clarified in a follow-up tweet. That means if Elden Ring ends up getting paid DLC, the money generated from that won't contribute to this already impressive total. It also means free-to-play games like Fortnite aren't included, no matter how much players have spent in-game after the fact.

While news that it has already become one of the best-selling games in US history might be somewhat surprising, there's no hiding the fact Elden Ring has been a massive success. The last we heard, the Souls game had sold more than 12 million copies, easily making it the best-selling FromSoftware game ever. It also appeared to have Game of the Year sewn up two months into 2022 until PlayStation confirmed God of War Ragnarok will launch in November.

Josh has been gaming for as long as he can remember. That love began with a mild childhood addiction to the Sega Genesis, or Mega Drive since he lives in the UK. Back then, Sonic 2 quickly became his favorite game and as you might have guessed from his picture, the franchise has remained close to his heart ever since. Nowadays, he splits his time between his PS4 and his Switch and spends far too much time playing Fortnite. If you're a fan of gaming, wrestling, and soccer, give him a follow on Twitter @BristolBeadz.
